Life Begins

As I type this there are 363 days until it happens (if I've got my maths right & there isn't a leap year), "What ?" you are asking (actually you probably aren't but I'm going to tell you anyway)

In 51 weeks and 5 days I turn 40 , the big 4 0 , life begins at etc!

So why the big deal?

It's a funny one for me to get my head round, it shouldn't feel an awful lot different from being 39 and yet there seems to be a big deal about it.Those who are already 40 and over have no problem with it , so it can't be all that bad , but I think that is my problem.

The people who have already been 40 are (whispers) grown ups !!
They are my Aunties , Uncles , Mum, Dad , certainly not me or my friends , we are still the kids , right?  

No ? What ? you mean to say I am an .......adult ? when did that happen ?

I can still remember the 40th Birthday of my Aunty , Paris themed as she was treated to a weekend there, and yet that was 20 years ago now !! My Dad had a surprise 45th (don't ask , not a success) , that was now 26 years ago !!

As the invites come in from friends for their 40th Birthday celebrations in the coming year I can't help but remember them as they were at school , spotty 14 year olds , definitely not grown ups with teenagers of their own, it's slightly scary.

Yet you never really notice the time going past , ask anyone and they will say that it only seems like 5 minutes since Christmas and yet here we are a quarter of the way through the year already.

I'm not worried about the physical aspect of getting older , I won't turn grey overnight (already been there , done that , got the hair dye)& I do get told (not bragging) that I look younger than I actually am and my parent aren't too wrinkly so there are good genes there !!

So in what will feel like a few moments I will turn 40! Will I have a party ? Not sure yet , never really been a party person but who knows , maybe I will do something different. I'm planning to finally learn how to drive (watch out roads of Essex) so that will be a new challenge !

One thing is for sure , I can't do anything to change the clocks and turn back time , and I know of plenty of people who are not around to celebrate their 40th Birthday so I've decided that growing old (a bit) disgracefully is the right way to go and hopefully soon I will be able to lay claim to being a fully fledged mad , old cat lady , well that's my ambition anyway !!  xxx
